On the road from Nairobi to Kisumu

One of the amazing things about Kenya is the diversity of the vegetation. As one drives you have level lands, a great valley, hills and the vegetation changes between dusty savanna lands to pine forests to lush farmlands. Here are some fascinating things. These zebras are waiting to cross a busy two lane road.

Here there are a few seconds later on the other side, having safely crossed between several trucks and cars. These guys were in the same area grazing on the side of the road.

And here is a typical sight along the road; women balance just about anything on their heads as they go from place to place. Sugar can, water jugs, baskets, laundry, you name it, they carry it!

They may be bigger, but cars don't always have the right of way. Sometimes even the cars have to give a little.

This thatched mud hut is not far outside of Kisumu. There are many mud-walled houses, but not a lot of thatched roofs. Most are of tin now. This is common sight; donkeys are a major source of transportation, either with things strapped to their backs or they are pulling carts.

This is on the 'diversion' or detour; it is a dirt road and that is dust you see, not a fuzzy picture.

There are miles of tea plantations that create a wave of greenery on the hill sides; this first picture has the workers picking the leaves; the second is just of the tea fields.
