Tuesday Elder Fox went to get a haircut. He show them the short amount he wanted cut off. We think they thought that was how much he wanted left on his head. It's SHORT! At least he won't need a hair cut for a while.
On Wednesday, we again had no city water. We decided to fill the tank from a tanker. The water was pretty clean. Only a few bottle caps floating in it. The had to back the truck up to the door, run a line down the hall, and put a hose through the window to the tank.
There was a small matter of water spraying from the pump onto the floor, but they were adept at sweeping it out the door. and the hose coming off the truck had also sprayed water.
Still, they did a good job of filling the tank. Then we pumped it up to the roof to make sure those tanks were filled. All this delayed our district meeting for a while. District meeting ran over and so we rushed to eat and do errands before going to the Nyalenda Slums for a meeting. We had about 12 people there- new converts, investigators and some older members. It was a great experience. I spoke on Alma 34:31-40 about this life being the time to prepare to meet God. How each though, act, habit creates our character and that determines our destiny. We have the freedom to choose. And each of those choices leads us closer to or further away from God. Our life is the sum total of those decisions. It is who we are. And that nature or character won't change when we die. We'll face the Master and present to him what we have done with our lives.

We were asked why we came on a mission and what we expected to accomplish here. We said we wanted a Stake in Kisumu before we left. Not likely, but hopefully we can raise up leaders who can be prepared to lead the church as it grows.

We returned home to greet Elder and Sister Esplain who are humanitarian missionaries. They came this way to check on some wells that were being dug. We had an enjoyable evening with them. They spent the night and then went on to Homa Bay in the morning.

  1. We got your postcard in the mail yesterday! Thanks for sending it! We need to get on the ball and send you some correspondance soon. I will try for next week! Yesterday and today we are babysitting a family of 5, plus Denali! Luckily the parents brought their baby (3 weeks younger than Denali) with them! We love you! Oh, and Tom's hair looks great! I think it looks good short! He should be happy he has so much hair! :)

  2. Gee, I guess it's been a while since Dad has his Marine Corps hair cut. Doesn't look all that strange to me- this is the Dad I grew up with! :) I'm impressed with how hard you guys are working! Hopefully retaining faithful members is easier than getting running water! Miranda
